Erin Kratzer-kelly, MS, RD, CSSD, LD

I am a Registered and Licensed Dietitian who is Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics/Nutrition, and the founder of Compleat Sports Nutrition, LLC.

I grew up dabbling in all of the sports before settling on soccer, horseback riding, and running as my main focuses. It was not uncommon for me to go straight from track practice, right to the barn for another training session. Looking back, I am thankful for the active lifestyle I had growing up, as it helped create a foundational piece of my life that I continue to do today – staying active and moving my body.

As a teenager, I wish I knew or practiced what I know now when it comes to sports nutrition. I question how my performance may have changed if I ate differently. I definitely had an appetite, but realize now that a bowl of mint chocolate chip ice cream after a track meet may not have been the best recovery for my muscles…especially when I had to compete the next day.

It wasn’t until my college years, that I started to become fascinated with how food could affect my performance, both positively and negatively. I quickly realized I wanted to know more about the connection between food, sport, performance, and health. I quickly became my own test rat – how do I feel after a run where I ate breakfast vs not eating breakfast? The anecdotal data was there, but I strived to learn more and help others understand the importance of nutrition in sport. My desire to learn and help others, led me to pursuing a masters degree in nutrition and exercise physiology – the best of both worlds in my eye. The connection between food and movement.

Eating is something that we must do to stay alive. I am here to help people learn how to eat to thrive in sport and allow for a complete life.

Today, I am doing just what I set out to do: helping athletes – young, old, elite, recreational, female, male – understand the value that nutrition can have on their performance, and health. Along with performance changes, clients also start to see the connection that food has to other things besides movement – health, sleep, mood, behavior, relationships, wellness. At the end of the day, eating is something that we must do to stay alive. I am here to help people learn how to eat to thrive in sport and allow for a complete life.

Often times, athletes and individuals focus on the physical training component of their sport or activity without recognizing that food, in the right amount and balance of nutrients, can better fuel their training, improve their recovery, increase their energy levels, and support any goals related to body composition. Additionally, altering eating habits to support training goals will ultimately supports health, wellness, and longevity.

After meeting with Erin individually, clients leave with a better understanding of the “what” and “why” to nutrition. More importantly, individuals will gain applicable knowledge and learn “how” to enact the recommendations into their daily routines. Erin believes that in order to make sustainable changes and improve all aspects of life and performance, individuals need to know how to put their new knowledge into action.

By focusing on the idea that “food is fuel,” athletes and individuals who work with Compleat Sports Nutrition notice huge improvements in their energy, performance, recovery, sleep, and body-composition.
